Holy Avtar Vani - Shabad No. 152
Retan di bunyaad te banya mahal jihde vich rehna eyn;
Ik boond di khed hai sari jis nun kaya kehna eyn.
Chann de vangun samjhen jihnun mitti da khilauna eyn;
Khaak de badle moorakh banda chhaddi baitha sona ey.
Ehde te abhimaan na kar je roop suhana paya ee;
Rab da noor asal vich bande sabhnan de mann bhaya ee.
Roop jawaani jehrhi tere palle hai eh maya ee;
Is utte magroor na ho eh chaldi firdi chhaya ee.
Mehar je apne guru ton lai ke sara maan mitavenga;
Kahe avtar ho uchcha suchcha haumai rog ganwanvenga.
Meaning
Here Baba Avtar Singh ji says, man wastes time during youth, feeling proud of his good looks which are temporary, whereas if one attains God knowledge from the True Master, he will get rid of the ego of his mere existence even. O' man, the palace in which you dwell is built on the foundation of sand. What you call the human body is just the product of one drop. Your mortal body which you equate with moon, is just like a toy of clay which can be easily crushed in no time. The unwise man loses the gold for the sake of dust. Do not be proud, if you possess beautiful appearance. In reality, it is the image of God that fascinates one and all. The beauty, the youth that you possess, is a mere illusion. It will fade in no time, its just like a shadow. If you come to the True Master and shed all your vanity, you can get rid of ego.
